Growing Games Viborg: Building a sustainable studio
It is no secret that the majority of game studios is on the hunt for a sustainable business model. Most studios are fighting, clawing their way through a mix of culturally funded projects, delivery of paid services and searching for private investments. Business models are changing with both audience and the technology to reach them.
At this Growing Games we take up the discussion of what the sustainable game studio will look like in the future. We will dive into what the critical factors are that will define success or failure of game studios in the future, whether it be business model, team or relation with the audience. We have invited three speakers to present three different takes on the future of game studios – game industry veteran Christian Fonnesbech, British executive coach and entrepreneurship advisor Richard Hughes-Jones and games commissioning editor Simon Løvind.

Simon Løvind, games commissioning editor at DFI, is responsible for 'Spilordningen', the public funding scheme for development of digital games. Simon has a background as an interactive designer and knows the potential of interactive media products. ’Spilordningen’ is undergoing changes in tune with the changing market and technology, which Simon will be talking about at Growing Games.
Richard Hughes-Jones is an entrepreneurial advisor and executive coach, specialised in helping start-up companies find and fine-tune their business model. With a background in everything from strategic consultancy to the British treasury Richard has extensive experience with taking tough strategic decisions.
Christian Fonnesbech is a veteran in the Danish games industry, having pitched, developed, launched and delivered more than 35 professional projects. Having graduated from running his own studio to being a board member and strategic consultant, Christian is advising game entrepreneurs and executives on strategy, marketing and investments. He is currently intrigued with the ever-changing conditions for success in the game industry and what it will take from game studios to be successful in the future.
