Real-time Spatial Reasoning in HITMAN
Speaker: Thomas Egeskov Petersen and Aitor Santamaria-Ibirika
Thomas has been working with game development for roughly 16 years. His working covers a huge variety of platforms, as a generalist gameplay programmer implementing all sorts of features for everything from small casual games to AAA. Presently, Thomas works as a senior AI programmer at IO Interactive where he’s been working for the past four years.
Aitor joined IO Interactive in 2015 as an AI and gameplay programmer. He works predominantly on AI systems for Hitman, with a special focus on agent coordination and behaviour selection. He has a PhD in procedural generation of virtual worlds for games from the University of Deusto.
Description: The talk will focus on how we go about spatial reasoning for the AI in the latest instalment of the Hitman game. We’ll be covering the basics of the nature of our pre-generated grid data, and how we use it in various ways to do real time computations for agent picking, positioning and so forth.
